Margaret Ashman is a printmaker whose work is a meditation on the unseen, spiritual, emotional and otherness of life. Using photographs or video stills, sometimes layering images from multiple sources she creates pieces in which a solitary dancer fills or interacts with a space. Dancers or Deaf signers are photographed performing contemporary dance or signing to particular songs or texts. She also works from video stills of dancers, always gaining the permission of the dance artist first. The manipulated imagery is transferred to multiple etching plates using traditional acids and aquatint, imparting a particular textural quality to the finished prints. She lives and works in London. While working in Great Fosters, Ates imagined these characters that once lived in the house. Ates says, 'They were absent; however, through the objects in the rooms, the interiors and the exterior of the building, I wanted to trace the "present" of some of the previous occupiers.' This new body of work confronts the intense dialogue between the past and present in this grand historic house. Guler's photographs were taken in the majestic settings of the Italian Room, Panel II Room and the Tapestry Room at Great Fosters, complete with 17th century Flemish tapestries and a carved wooden Jacobean chimneypiece. The Italian Room is finished with carved Quattrocentro doors and damask covered walls. The darkness in the rooms, a consequence of the Tudor architecture, plays a significant role in the work of Ates, whose ambiguously veiled female figures illuminate against the dramatic backdrop of rich, heavy drapery. The extreme contrast is one element employed by the artist in order to create the fluid, floating apparitions that have become synonymous with Ates' work. Ates herself is inspired by Dutch Old Master paintings and the darkness and intensity of the works on display are reminiscent of these masters of painting. Her body of work comments on the Western notion of Orientalism and the effects of the cross pollination of cultures on female identity and architecture. Trained originally as a psychologist, I focus on human states of being such as exhaustion, angst, grief, love and resilience in contemporary figurative paintings. I create a balance of emptiness and coloured space to embody the Buddhist concept of 'shunyata' or emptiness, which is to be found also in Contemplative Christianity. My work is informed too by the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, a philosophy and an aesthetic that emphasises the impermanence, imperfection and incompleteness of life. Wabi-Sabi is a call for a return to the principles of simplicity, an appreciation of the value of the unadorned, and the everyday and an ability to see beauty in that which is not conventionally considered beautiful. My art attempts to act as therapy, both as a healing meditative experience for myself as I create it, but also for the viewer as it evokes a sense of 'Yes, I have felt that feeling!' In the two landscapes I have painted, I have embodied horizons of hope. All of the post cards are done with Drawing Inks and Bamboo pen. The materials used are simple and unpretentious, embodying the concepts of impermanence, imperfection and incompleteness to be found in the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi. The white of the card i.e. the 'shunyata' or emptiness of the background, is as important to each piece as the figure in the foreground.

Trained originally as a psychologist, I focus on human states of being such as exhaustion, angst, grief, love and resilience in contemporary figurative paintings. I create a balance of emptiness and coloured space to embody the Buddhist concept of 'shunyata' or emptiness, which is to be found also in Contemplative Christianity. My work is informed too by the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, a philosophy and an aesthetic that emphasises the impermanence, imperfection and incompleteness of life. Wabi-Sabi is a call for a return to the principles of simplicity, an appreciation of the value of the unadorned, and the everyday and an ability to see beauty in that which is not conventionally considered beautiful. My art attempts to act as therapy, both as a healing meditative experience for myself as I create it, but also for the viewer as it evokes a sense of 'Yes, I have felt that feeling!' Florence Hutchings (b. 1996) originally from Kent now lives and works in London. Education: Florence graduated with a first class honours from The Slade School of Fine Art, where she also won the Lynn Painter's Stainers Scholarship during her studies. Exhibitions/Awards: Florence has had three solo shows in the past two years and has exhibited her work widely throughout the UK and abroad. The largest show of her work was in 2019 at the Saatchi Gallery where eight large scale paintings were displayed in an exhibition titled Kaleidoscope. The paintings from that show remain part of Charles Saatchi's collection. Florence has taken part in a few residences too, her most recent being in September 2019 in LA, which resulted in a show of the work at the Cabin. Florence's work revolves around the poetry of the everyday, taking elements of her life whether it be the studio, the clothes rail in her bedroom or even the toilet in the bathroom. Florence depicts these objects into almost abstract forms giving them the life and vitality that she sees in them. Her work is extremely textured and layered, this occurs due to the constant repainting in almost all of her works, collage also plays a vital role in this process. I work on a white surface, usually leaving the background pure, happily playing with the interaction of its texture with the paint. I create the colour by mixing paints, pigments, inks, playing with the paint dilution, exploiting its transparency effects, or its pigment accumulations. I try to emphasize the fluidity of the material, and look in the gesture for a balance between tension and slackening, concentration and spontaneity, in order to reach an equilibrium in the composition. The result is floating in a white space, like a calligraphic sign. The superimposition of its elements and the contrast between the density and the transparency give a sculptural dimension to the composition. In their formal simplicity, these art works are an invitation into a spiritual journey. I create the colour by mixing paints, pigments, inks, playing with the paint dilution, exploiting its transparency effects, or its pigment accumulations. I try to emphasize the fluidity of the material, and look in the gesture for a balance between tension and slackening, concentration and spontaneity, in order to reach an equilibrium in the composition. The result is floating in a white space, like a calligraphic sign. The superimposition of its elements and the contrast between the density and the transparency give a sculptural dimension to the composition. In their formal simplicity, these art works are an invitation into a spiritual journey. Natisa Jones b. 1989 Born in Jakarta, Natisa Jones is a visual artist who works between Bali, Indonesia where she spent most of her childhood growing up - and Amsterdam, Netherlands where she is currently based. Chloë Manasseh CASA: Meaning home o/ nickname for Casablanca, 2021 Watercolour on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) I am a British Artist based in Singapore and currently working between Europe and Asia. Education I completed my Master in Fine Arts from The Slade School of Fine Art in 2014, where I was the recipient of the Euan Uglow Memorial Scholarship. Exhibitions/Awards My work has been exhibited internationally with exhibitions in USA, UK, Italy, Israel and Singapore. I have collaborated extensively with artists, musicians, clothing and interior designers on various projects around the world. Working between painting, print, video and large scale installations and sculptures, my work sits between experience and imagination, and considers the limits of representation in relation to the wholeness of experience. Notable projects and exhibitions include a projection onto the canopy of the National Gallery of Singapore in conjuction with Singapore's 55th birthday celebrations (SG 2020); 'The Fruitfulness of Forgetting', a solo exhibition at The British High Commissioner's residence in Singapore with Art Porters Gallery (SG 2019); 'Palma Viva', a 14m public installation at Changi City Point (SG 2018); a 25m mural at Facebook HQ Singapore as part of FB AIR programme (SG 2018), 'The Deepest Blue' exhibition at Block 7 Gillman Barracks (SG 2018), a solo show at NPE Art Residency and Gallery (SG 2017), The Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (UK 2017), Multiplied at Christies Auction House (UK, 2015) and a commission by Università Cattolica UCSC Milan, for Expo Milan 2015 and the Vatican Pavilion at Expo (IT). Previous artist residencies include, Artist in Residence at The Winstedt School, Singapore; The Vagabond Hotel (SG, 2018); South Hampstead High School (UK 2016/17) and The Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency, ( CA, USA 2015)
