Condition Report:
There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.
There are losses, observations and restorations including: the paintwork later; cracks to the chair backs along sectional joints; cracks to some seats generally along the grain of the timber, some repairs to fix the seats; some later blocks to the underside of the chairs; small sections to the feet to re-tip some legs; some legs with quite jagged knocks along the edges; surprisingly small evidence of worm given that the chairs are made of pine; one chair back upright with a repaired break, still visible with a crack and with an indented repair clamp mark.

There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.
There are losses, observations and restorations including: the detachable book rest possibly later; repairs and replacements to the lock, there is no key; repairs including redowelling to one interior corner; some splits to the interior base; some cracks adjacent to the hinge area from the combined weight of the top and metal struts; the top slightly bowed; the brass with a patina of scratches; some repairs/strengthening where the legs screw in.

λ BORIS VASILYEVICH ANREP (1883-1969), A LARGE AND RARE MOSAIC PANEL
EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Of roundel form with depiction of figure of a saint, holding branch above a font, staff and banner to left hand

Provenance:
Commissioned by Augustus John for his house at 28 Mallord Street London in 1919 together with a large overmantel mosaic depicting John and his family. The two were covered up with panelling and only rediscovered when the family who had purchased the property in 1962- redecorated the property in 1970. The overmantel was subsequently removed and sold to the V&A Museum which holds it still (Accession Number A.7PART/1-1971). Anrep was feted for his skill as an artist in mosaics during his lifetime and a close friend of many of the members of the Bloomsbury Group. However he is relatively little known today. Partially this is because his work was commissioned for- and remains in- large institutions such as the National Gallery, Westminster Cathedral and the Bank of England. When his mosaic floors at the National Gallery were completed in 1952 a party was held to celebrate - attendees included T.S. Elliot, Somerset Maugham, Augustus John, Ben Nicholson, Cecil Beaton, Noel Coward and Winston Churchill. Little or any of his mosaic work seems to have appeared at auction.

This lot bears close similarities with lot 264 from Christie's auction of "Collection de Maître et Madame Michard-Pellissier, Un appartement décoré par Victor Grandpierre", Paris 27th June 2007. Condition Report: Overall there are scratches, marks, scuffs and abrasions consistent with age and use. Moreover self evidently this has been outside and has weathered with consequential discolouration, lichen, etc.
The surface with numerous areas of weather and atmosphere spotting, which looks to be engrained. However, the surface finish is quite smooth without much granulation.
The head is quite loose on the torso and there is old restoration around the cloth to neckline. A section missing to back neck. The edges of torso with some chips and losses notably to arms and lower edge.
Due to the weight of the piece we have not been able to examine the underside.

Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Some small edge marks but generally good- mild weathering but both ring sound to a knock suggesting they are not cracked

A GROUP OF 'MAN O'WAR' TEAK FURNITURE, ATTRIBUTED TO HEALS
FOR CASTLES SHIPBREAKING CO, EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The suite incorporating two benches of 'Alexandra' type, the larger 87cm high, 184cm wide, 56cm deep overall, the smaller, 89cm high, 114cm wide, 56cm deep overall, and two tables, both with heavily weathered plaques for 'CASTLES', each 59cm high, 81cm wide, 57cm deep overall (4)
This type of furniture was named after Men O'War (Battleships) broken up at Castles Shipbreakers and the wood repurposed to make the furniture. It is likely that the wood for the benches came from H.M.S. Alexandra, an Royal Navy ironclad in service from 1877 to 1900.
Castles received a Royal Warrant in 1888 as provider of garden furniture to Her Majesty Queen Victoria. They are known to have supplied furniture to Royal Parks, Sports Grounds and Public Schools. Their most notable commissions being furnishing the grounds of Buckingham Palace in celebration of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887, and supplying the seating for Centre Court and No.1 Court at Wimbledon in the 1920s.

Condition Report:
Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Both with clearly visible seam construction an surface cracks- along seams and to main bodies. Colour variance and with the paler one showing greater indications of surface cracks. This may be superficial but the other 'rings' better to a knock and it is possible that the paler one has undergone restoration. At least three elephant trunks reglued and repaired and with edge wear and scuffs throughout.
