A QUEEN ANNE WALNUT AND HOLLY STRUNG CHEST OF DRAWERS CIRCA 1710With an unusual small side drawer to one side 87cm high, 99cm wide, 57cm deep Provenance: Private Collection, Kent Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions, old chips and splits comensurate with age and use.Some old repairs including some veneer replacement. A larger central are of veneer to the uppermost long drawer appears likely to be an old Some old worm damage as expected for age. Natural fading overall (see catalogue images and additional images) As expected and most often seen for a piece of this age, the feet are well matched replacements that are faithful to the period style. The feet do have good colour and patina, they do have age but are not original. There is no evidence of alternate handles or escutcheons. The appearance of them and the way they are secured appears original. The marks from the 'pendant drop' element of the handles moving and marking the areas of the drawer fronts over time also is consistent. (see additional images. It is possible that the current handles are old replacements using the same holes as the original handles but there is no clear evidence detected. The small drawer to the side panel is possibly an original feature although it is difficult to be able to guarantee. The wear and the way the drawer is made suggest it could possibly be original or atleast have age, however, there are twin divisions to the rear of (behind) each of the two top drawers that could have been there to frame small drawers. The way the 'frames' are built and with would probably suggest they are a later addition. They appear to be of simple glued construction. There is some evidence that the two top drawers may well hjave been reduced in depth to allow for this also. The joints to the rear of the drawer linings (of the two top drawers) mainly actually appear more square rather than being dovetailed. There is evidence of later glue to the joints also. Some division between elements of drawer linings as often seen for a piece of this age. Some replacement fillets of timber to the drawer linings. Some later glued blocks to the interior of the carcass as expected and often seen. The drawer locks appear to be early 18th century in date and most may be original or atleast of early 18th century period. One lock to one long drawer varies in proportion and is smaller than the aperture int he drawer front so is very likely an 18th century replacement. A high percentage of the securing nails are hand made. Some are lacking. Lacking keys. There are slightly curious twin 'pin' marks equally spaced either side of each handle. There is no hole through the drawer front there. It is possible that these indicate where a drawwing instrument may have been placed ont he veneer in order to 'draw' the semi circular line of the stringing adjacent (see additional images) Please refer to the additional images available via email for visual reference to condition. A MAHOGANY TWIN PEDESTAL DINING TABLE LATE 18TH CENTURY AND LATER With two additional leaf insertions, bearing Norman Adams paper label to the underside of one pedestal 71cm high, 164cm long (unextended), 188cm long (extended), 114cm wide Provenance: Bearing a Norman Adams paper label to the underside Provenance: Private Collection, Kent Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions, old chips and splits comensurate with age and use.Some fading overall to the top, some additional staining and ring marks as expected for age and use. (see additional images)When the table is not fully extended, having shorter supports or 'bearers' would help to keep the table firm and flat. There amy be a tendency for the centre of the tabel to 'dip' slightly if bearers are not used. This would be a simple thing to help use the table succesfully. The table isnt very 'wobbly' but there is some movement when weight is pressed down. Some minor adjustments to 'tighten' the connection of the end leaves on their pedestals would also help resolve this. There are brass clips that connect the elements of the top of the table well. There is some relatively minor variation in colour between elements of the top. This could be remedied/ improved by attention from an experienced restorer. One of the additional leaves has a straight join within it suggesting it may be the result of joining two leaves of varying widths together. The leaf is glued and also secured by later bearers screwed to the underside of it. Some adaption of the arrangement of the leaves has therefore taken place. It is possible that some elements of the top are associated to eachother, but they do generally match well. One additional leaf appears to have more of a subtle 'flame' within its grain. The 'later' element(s) of the table are basically the bearers that help support the leaves and the structure of the tabel when they are all in the table. The metal fittings that secure the position of the bearers are also later. Originally there is likely to have been a central pillar which is now lacking. This is a common thing to find with tables of this type. There are also later short 'bearers' than can be rotated to help support the leaves in position prior to the clips being put in. Please refer to all additional images for visual reference to condition. Some of the additional photos can make the top of the tabel appear much more 'yellow' than it is. The catalogue or online catalogue images reflect more truthfully what the table looks like but in bright (studio) lightCondition Report Disclaimer

A FRENCH GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE SUNFLOWER TIMEPIECE WITH INKSTAND EARLY 19TH CENTURY The dial within Tournesol setting, white enamel dial with watch movement, above a long stem entwined by a gilt bronze serpent, on an oval base surmounted by a pierced basket gallery, the interior fitted as an encrier 30.5cm high overall, base 13cm diameter Provenance: From the estate of Lionel Alfred Martin, Ingram Avenue, London (1855-1933). Chairman of Tate & Lyle. For a similar example, see Christie's, London, Important European Furniture, Sculpture and Carpets, 5th July 2007, lot 1 (£13,200). A watercolour depicting a virtually identical clock is illustrated in C. Plante and R. Garnier, Designs for Gilt Bronze Objects from the French Restoration 1814-1830, London, 2002, p.68, pl.52. Condition Report: Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Overall in generally good condition but dirty and with rubbing to gilding. Patina paler from handling adn wear to margins and around dial. Snake slightly loose. Hinge to glazed door with remedial repair Later porcelain inkwell to base and with a spare ink dip The movement is signed Brasseur a Paris, Movement has an issue with the mainspring winding clicks/greatwheel (wheel possibly loose on its arbor) hence will not currently wind. Mechanism otherwise appears intact and in original albeit very dirty/gummed-up neglected condition hence will require and overhaul. The enamel dial has been restored hence is now free from visible defects. A SEVRES PART DINNER SERVICE CIRCA 1785** Painted with a central floral panel within a floral gilt band border, comprising: two shell-shaped quatrefoil dishes, 22cm x 22cm; two oval dishes, 27cm in length and sixteen plates, interlaced 'L's marks only without date letters and including one of superior quality, interlaced 'L's' mark verso, date letter KK for 1787, gilder's mark LG for Etienne-Henri Le Guay (1719/1720 - about 1799) and gold hashtag device used by the gilder Michel-Barnabé Chauvaux, l'aîné (active 1752-88), P7 painter's mark, possibly Jean-Jaques Pierre jeune (1763-1800), 24cm diameter*Provenance: Used regularly and displayed in the Drawing Room of the Private Apartment of H.R.H. The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon at Kensington Palace Until sold, Christie's, Silver, Furniture and Works of Art from the Collection of H.R.H. See David Peters, Sevres Plates and Services of the 18th Century (2005) where Mr Peters attributes this service to number 90/2 and 94/7 amongst others. **Please not that on its previous saleroom outing at Christie's, the service was catalogued as 18th century porcelain but later decorated.Please note, the cataloguing for this lot has been revised and differs from that shown in the printed catalogue. Condition Report: One plate is of superior quality to the others and comes with interlaced 'L's' mark with date letters etc. The bleu celeste borders are seeded and slightly at variance with the rest of the service. The remainder of the service just has interlaced 'L's' marks which in of itself is not unusual at Sevres. The single with an abundance of marks, has a couple of frits to the top surface and scratches to the gilding.Fifteen plates: Ten are in some way chipped, ranging from small up to a cm in length. Five lack serious damage but are a little worn, indicating that they have seen some use.Shell dishes: One cracked and rivetted. The other cracked and sprayed.POTENTIAL PURCHASERS ARE REMINDED THAT ON ITS PREVIOUS OUTING AT AUCTION WITH CHRISTIE'S, THE SERVICE WAS CATALOGUED AS HAVING LATER DECORATION.
