This plaster bust is a copy of the sculpture in the Louvre dated to 100 BC. Melpomene, known as the Muse of tragedy, is one of nine Ancient Greek mythological muses. She is on display in a room designed in the Louvre by Charles Percier (1764 - 1838) which is named after her.
This bust was recently exhibited at the Ecole National des Beaux Arts de Paris in 2020

The personal collection of the late Sir Patrick Moore CBE HON FRS FRAS (1923-2012)
This table commemorates the Apollo11 Space Module which landed on the lunar surface on 20th July 1969. Apollo 11 Commander Neil A. Armstrong and Lunar Module pilot Edwin E. 'Buzz' Aldron Jr., landed in Mare Tranquilitatis (the Sea of Tranquility) on the Moon and during their stay set up scientific experiments, took photographs and collected Lunar samples. The Lunar Module took off from the Moon on 21 July and the astronauts returned to Earth with Michael Collins, the pilot of the Command and Service Module on 24 July.
Mark Stoddart produced a limited edition of 20 Apollo 11 table in the UK, and this example was presented to Sir Patrick Moore and featured on The Sky At Night where Sir Patrick, Brain May Brain Cox and others sat around around this table presenting the television show.
