A LARGE PAIR OF CAST IRON FEMALE FIGURAL LIGHTS ON PEDESTALS ATTRIBUTED TO MATHURIN MOREAU FOR VAL D'OSNE, LATE 19TH CENTURY Modelled as water bearers, in Classical style draped clothing, glass ball shades, original pedestal bases, unsigned the taller figure 132cm high overall, the bases 90cm to upper lip, approximately 222cm high overall Provenance: Private Collection, Swiftsden House, East Sussex The design for one of these figures is reproduced in the catalogue of the Société Anonyme des Hauts-Fourneaux & Fonderies du Val d'Osne as Jeune fille , No. 245, plate 595. The design for the pedestals is illustrated in the catalogue, plate 570, top row second pedestal in. Condition Report: With wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Formerly painted- now stripped with some paint remnants. Both with later white opaque glass ball (not flambeau) shades and electrical bulb fitments (no wiring). Both with some vacant and filled holes from previous wiring/gas use. Scuffing, marks and abrasions throughout to all sections. Figure holding light with her right arm- has had repair to base of urn and to her left wrist. The figure does not sit completely cleanly on base and will require attachment for safe display and use. Please see additional images for visual references to condition which form part of this condition report. All lots are available for inspection and Condition Reports are available on request.
