MEISSEN, FLOWERS AND BUTTERFLIES, AN EXTENSIVE PORCELAIN DINNER-SERVICE CIRCA 1910 Painted with specimen butterflies, moths and insects and flowers, with ozier moulded borders and gilt band rims, comprising: A large two handled oval tureen, cover, and two handled stand, the tureen with gilt foliate scroll handles and painted with a Tortoiseshell butterfly, the domed cover with a Painted Lady butterfly below an entwined gilt foliage finial, the stand with a butterfly similar to a Purple Emperor, 37.7cm x 52.8 cm wide A two handled tureen and cover, of squat circular form on a short ozier moulded foot, with elaborate gilt foliage and shell handles, 33.5 cm. wide A small oval sauce tureen, fixed stand and a cover, the stand painted with a Garden Tiger Moth, 26 cm wide A two handled double lipped lozenge shaped sauce tureen and fixed stand, approximately 26 cm wide A large narrow oval fish platter, painted with a dragonfly and water lilies, 60.7 cm long A large narrow oval fish platter, smaller, painted with a dragonfly and irises, 54.6 cm long Two large oval serving dishes, painted with a Wall Brown butterfly and a Cabbage White butterfly, 44.6 cm long A large oval serving dish, smaller, painted with a Painted Lady butterfly, 53.3 cm long A large lobed circular shallow bowl, painted with a Blue butterfly, 28.7 cm wide A large lobed circular dish, painted with a Marbled White butterfly, 34.9 cm wide A large lobed circular dish, painted with a bumble bee, 31.3 cm wide A shaped square bowl, the interior with a Swallowtail butterfly, 22.1 cm wide A shaped square dish, 23 cm wide Two small oval dishes, one painted with a Red Admiral butterfly, 22.8 cm wide Sixteen small shell shaped dishes with scrolling gilt handles, 13.5 cm long Twelve lobed circular dishes, 21.7 cm wide Twelve smaller lobed circular dishes, 15.7 cm wide Fifty four lobed circular dinner plates, approximately 26 cm wide Twelve lobed circular soup plates, 22.7 cm wide Blue crossed swords marks, various impressed marks and Pressnummern Provenance: From the Estate of Gertrud-Adehheid von Ehrenberg (née Köhler, 1891-1975) Condition Report: Overall this service appears to be in very good and useable condition. The piece with a condition issue is the small oval sauce-tureen which has a shallow chip to the border adjacent to the rim (approximately 7 mm. x 10 mm.), and as the cover is a poor fit, it may possibly be from another (now lost) sauce-tureen in the service, or a replacement cover supplied at the time.
